Research Assistant, Consumer Insight

America's Test Kitchen is seeking a research assistant who loves working with data, is passionate and naturally curious about consumer insight, excels in project management and exhibits strong organizational skills. Flexibility and a desire to grow and learn are paramount for success in this new department supporting research and analytics across the organization. 



  • Collaborate with editorial and marketing staff to support key research needs:

    • Construct and execute surveys and questionnaires primarily for magazines and Special Issue Projects

    • Analyze survey results; transform respondent feedback into meaningful segments for analysis (inspecting, cleaning, transforming with the goal of discovering useful information)

    • Run simple statistical analysis to derive insights and aid in reporting processes

    • Share results with appropriate editorial team members; present research results in a manner that is clear, compelling, and accurate; and archive results to appropriate databases.

    • Work closely with editorial team to evaluate and revise current survey practices based on editorial and business needs.

  • Monitor survey email inbox, assisting readers/members with any issues relating to accessing surveys; monitor inbox for prize raffle

  • Support Consumer Insights Analyst in survey deployment and analysis for cookbook, TV, and digital research projects.

  • Support the implementation of new consumer insights projects/goals through research, information gathering and sharing, and meeting attendance.

  • Investigate sources of marketplace and competitive data

  • Develop tools and manuals to document how editorial surveys are developed, deployed, and analyzed.

  • Help support a “customer first” culture of deep consumer understanding.



  • Experience with survey development and basic analysis (including, but not limited to, writing survey questions, using survey platforms to design surveys, conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses).

  • Strong communication skills, including:

    • Ability to accurately distill data into actionable results for editorial and consumer insight teams.

    • Ability to work across departments, balancing business, consumer, and editorial needs and priorities.

  • Ability and willingness to learn new software and platforms and come up to speed fairly quickly.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - ability to dig deep into data, and creative reporting skills.

  • Eagerness to gain research experience and develop skills in brand research and product development

  • Ability to easily pivot as priorities change

  • Some cooking/food knowledge is a plus, especially when working with editorial teams. 



  • Bachelor’s degree in a market research, business-related, or social science field (marketing, economics, statistics, advertising, psychology etc.)

  • 1-3 years experience in primary market research or survey research; experience with media, book, and/or magazine products a plus

  • Experience analyzing quantitative research data

  • Strong PowerPoint skills; proficiency with advanced Excel features/tools

  • Strong academic background (GPA required)

  • Thrives in a collaborative, team-based, performance-driven environment
