Essential Elements of Position

The Assistant Test Cook is responsible for helping to establish our new Food Truck venture. This includes working alongside the Food Truck Manager to plan for and execute the preparation and cooking of America’s Test Kitchen recipes, place shopping orders, as well as the cleaning and maintenance of the Food Truck’s interior and exterior.  

Driving the Food Truck is a requirement of this job.  The Food Truck is a 3-speed manual transmission vehicle that can easily be taught to the right candidate for this position who shows the initiative and is eager to learn.

This is a full-time position that is site-based and requires an early start time (7:30 to 8:00AM).  This position will also be required to work the occasional non-standard hours of operation, including multiple weekends throughout the year when the regular offices at America’s Test Kitchen are closed.

During times of inactivity on the Food Truck, this position will be asked to support the Photo Team with any number of tasks including the mise/prep for recipes, and supporting photo and video shoots.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to juggle cooking tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven team environment where priorities can shift quickly.

  • Comfort with both savory and sweet cooking methods.

  • Fastidious attention to detail in following and executing recipes.

  • Self-starter with independence, initiative, and a drive to succeed, as well as strong organizational skills and can-do approach to problem solving.

  • Effective communicator with ability to present findings in a group setting.

  • Ability to build relationships and work across multiple departments.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and comfortably in an environment in which decisions are more often made by the group than by the individual.

  • Organized and works extremely clean.  This is a tight-space and requires attention to your surroundings.  Must be comfortable is these kinds of conditions.

Education and Experience

  • Degree from an accredited culinary arts program (or equivalent).

  • Minimum of 2 years cooking experience and demonstrated ability to precisely follow directions.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of ServSafe regulations and requirements (ServSafe Certification is a plus)
