America’s Test Kitchen (ATK), one of the pioneering brands in food media, is seeking a Chief Content Officer to lead the multi-platform content creation teams, managing a staff of 100+ editors, producers, recipe developers, product testers, writers, art directors, and tv/video talent. This C-suite role based in Boston, MA reports to the Chief Executive Officer, and will have a significant role in shaping the future of this storied company where savory aromas from the test kitchen waft through the office.
Strategy and Leadership
Partner with other C-suite leaders to create vision for the company and set long-range business priorities
Translate business objectives into cross-platform content strategy with twin goals of maximizing revenue and raising brand awareness
Deploy creative team resources to develop best-in-class content in support of business goals, with primary goal of attracting and retaining digital and print subscribers
Hire and mentor senior creative team leaders and ensure the continued development of the next generation of talented leadership
Manage multiple teams, working in adjacent but distinct businesses, for efficiency and innovation
Oversee content budgeting (tv shows, kitchen expenses, books, etc.), working closely with creative leads and finance team
Serve as a spokesperson and face of ATK with sponsors, business and marketing partners, and the media
Content Creation
Manage content development for media platforms (tv shows, video programming, podcasts)
Oversee development of premium, differentiated content on media platforms (Amazon, YouTube, OTT channels) to maximize direct revenue
Partner with rest of the exec team on strategy to drive digital traffic and subscriptions from media products
Work with sales and business partners to maximize sponsorship and custom video revenue
Create video content to support sales of magazines and books and drive affiliate revenue
Manage content development for digital platforms, magazines, books, and newsstand special issues
Set strategy for recipe development and product review teams with goal of retaining current subscribers and attracting new audiences
Work with EICs for Cook’s Illustrated and Cook’s Country to shape these brands and develop content across platforms
Work with Editorial Director for books to build publishing list and hone concepts for market success
Manage digital editorial team responsible for web and app content, working to translate test kitchen value prop to our digital audience
Manage product reviews team (ATK Reviews) and partner with business leads on maximizing affiliate revenue
Manage newsstand special interest publications (SIPs), with focus on topic selection, concepting of issues, and covers
Manage senior staff leading TV, video, magazines, books, digital, cooking school, and product reviews
This position is located in our Boston, MA office in the Seaport district. Our organization is currently following a hybrid work schedule of 3 days in the office per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and 2 days remote per week. This schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
